Nonlinear dynamical phenomena in photorefractive media, liquid crystal, plasmas and left-handed materials

The study of the propagation and dynamics of self-organized optical structures in photorefractive media, liquid and photonic crystals, and left-handed materials. Emphasis placed on the nonlinear dynamics of counter-propagating laser beams, with the influence of different control parameters and spontaneous symmetry breaking in the transverse patterns of the intensity. The investigation of nonlinear phenomena in magnetized and dusty plasmas, particularly the study of the magnetic reconnection and of the generation of nonlinear structures in the physical and phase spaces, with applications to the physics of the Earth’s magnetosphere and ionosphere, nonneutral plasma and Bose-Einstein condensate, the interaction of ultraintense ultrashort laser pulses with plasma, and the laser-plasma accelerators of elementary particles.
