Despite its successes in describing known macroscopic gravitational phenomena, Einsteins general relativity (GR) still lacks the status of a fundamental microscopic theory, because it admits singular solutions under very general assumptions, and all attempts to quantize GR encounter serious difficulties. In order to overcome this unsatisfying situation, one is naturally led to consider alternative approaches to gravity: gauge theories of gravity, the string theory, and noncomutative theories. The project includes two subjects:
A. Torsion and non-metricity in gravity and string/brane theory
B. Non-commutative field theory and geometry.
We expect from our research to clarify the dynamical and symmetry aspects of gravity closely related to its quantum nature. This program is realized by studying alternative gravitational theories.
